Arched Window Treatments

Finding arched window treatments can be challenging for most homeowners or office decorators. While some shoppers may choose to leave a semi circular glass that is positioned high on the wall free of decorations or sun shades, most people prefer to add some sort of glass covering either to minimize the intense rays of the sun, or to add some extra security by preventing prying eyes from seeing into an office or home. Online shopping and specialty retail stores can offer pre made solutions for these type of coverings, as well as customized solutions that are available by special order only.

Arched window treatments can vary from slatted blinds to solid or sheer shades that can be either fully functional or permanently affixed. Permanent shades cannot be opened or shut, but are permanently affixed to the frame surrounding the glass panes themselves. Many of these shades will resemble a hand held fan with accordion like folds. These can be quite visually stunning and serve well to block out varying levels of sunlight, depending upon the sheerness of the material. They are also available by custom order and made specifically for each individual area. Shades are available in many different colors and fabrics, from silk to cotton, and even lace upon occasion. Most are customized to not only fit each individual window glass but each and every individual taste and style as well.

Mini blinds and plantation styled blinds are also a popular choice for covering unusually shaped windows. Blinds are also very functional in that they are able to be opened to allow more light into the room, or closed to dim the area. They can also be raised or lowered, leaving the glass bare and open to see out of fully. Most blinds will actually be lowered by a set of small chords, allowing the smaller widths on the top of the arch to efficiently lie on the top of the wider widths beneath them. These type blinds are custom made to fit each individual glass and frame, and the chords that are used to move the blind up and down are usually in a color that blends well with the frame or blind, itself. Mini blinds, which are available in plastic or metal, can be found in several different colors to match the décor of any room. Plantation styled blinds can be found in wood shades or faux woods shades, as well as in white, black, or beige.

While arched window treatments do present a problem in the area of curtains, there are also some clever solutions there as well. Most people choose to keep the arch free of any curtains, and will hang a curtain right below the arch, covering the rest of the glass below it. Other alternatives are to use tints or films on the glass arch. Tints can be professionally added to the glass to lessen the sun’s impact and fading of furniture of floors. A precut translucent film can also be used and can be easily removed if desired at a later time. No matter how high or large the glass arch is, there are plenty of stylish solutions.
